3do-wreck-man

HaltedPlayable3DO

Based on Pac-Man

About

Pac-Man is Namco's 1980 arcade maze-chase game, one of the best-known titles in video game history. 3do-wreck-man is a from-scratch clone of Pac-Man built for the 3DO console, using no assets or source code from the original — the author describes it as built from scratch rather than ported. It targets real 3DO hardware (NTSC and PAL) via the RetroArch Opera core, and was originally built in 2021 before being refactored for a 2023 release.

How it differs from the original

The game deliberately avoids any Pac-Man-branded art or names, and includes a separate 3DO intermission program the author wrote to exercise the console's task-launcher system — not part of the original arcade game.

Getting started

Launch via the included launch script, which starts RetroArch's Opera core and loads the game disc image. There's a hidden extra: holding the X and B buttons together at startup makes the player character invisible.

Provenance

Disclaimed / Unaffiliated
