About

Anodyne 2: Return to Dust is a 2019 game made by Analgesic Productions. This is Analgesic Productions' own release of the Unity source code for Anodyne 2: Return to Dust. It is not strictly open source, since its license carries a clause protecting the developer commercially, but the studio describes it as effectively open source for most reasonable uses.

How it differs from the original

This release has no controller support out of the box, because the shipped game used the paid Rewired plugin, which isn't included (the underlying Steam API calls remain in the code, though). It also drops the game's Kartridge and Steam store-integration code and omits console support entirely, since that was handled separately by an external porting studio whose code isn't part of this release.

Getting started

A separate installation guide is included in the repository for setting up and running the game from its Unity source.

History

The source was released by original programmer and co-developer Melos Han-Tani in August 2024 to mark the game's fifth anniversary.

Additional notes

Limitation
No original music source files are included in this release.
Trivia
Some code still references old internal placeholder character names that were never updated, though they aren't used in the shipped game.
