About
The early Ultima role-playing games (Ultima I through V) on the Commodore 64 and 128, including Ultima III: Exodus, are described as featuring a world map, enterable towns, and 3D dungeon displays. Anteform is a horror/sci-fi detective-story RPG written for PICO-8 using the Minima Engine, styled after the early Commodore 64/128-era Ultima games (world map, towns, first-person-style dungeon crawling) though closer in tone to the Worlds of Ultima spin-offs. It is a complete, winnable game with its own original story, setting and characters. It runs on Linux, Mac, Windows and Raspberry Pi, and is also playable in a browser via PICO-8's online BBS.
How it differs from the original
Unlike the Ultima games it's styled after, Anteform tells an entirely original detective/horror story (a missing-persons case) with its own backstory, plot and characters, rather than reusing any Ultima plot or world.
