About
Armor Alley: Remastered is a browser-based reinterpretation of the Macintosh and MS-DOS versions of Armor Alley, rebuilt in JavaScript/HTML5/CSS with GPU-accelerated rendering. It's playable now in-browser and has been extended across multiple releases from 2013 through an ongoing 2026 work-in-progress version, though development is sporadic.
How it differs from the original
It adds features not in the original release, including network multiplayer (PvP or co-op vs. CPU), 12 new levels designed for network play alongside the 10 original campaign battles, a level editor, and an optional 'Virtual Stupidity' theme pack. The original sound effects could not be relicensed, so the remaster uses different, modern sound effects sourced from freesound.org, while its sprites were remastered from the original Macintosh version's artwork with the original author's permission.
Getting started
The game can be played directly in a web browser; instructions for running it locally and its JavaScript/CSS build process are included in the repository's developer documentation.
History
The project began as a 2013 browser prototype and has been updated across several major versions since, including a 10th Anniversary 'Remastered' edition in 2023 and an ongoing 2026 rework, with the original game's author granting permission to use its artwork.
Known limitations
- audio: Audio does not work in the Docker-based dev setup, only in production (based on changelog context, though not explicitly in main README).
