About

BugBomber is an Amiga game similar to Bomberman, distinguished by letting players spawn their own helper robots. BitRiot is a re-implementation of the Amiga game BugBomber, ported from its original Win32/DirectDraw codebase first to software-blitted SDL 1.2 and later to SDL2 with game controller and rumble support, plus a menu system built on RmlUi. It is built with CMake and currently supports resizable windows, fullscreen, and a larger map option.

Getting started

The game is built from source with CMake after installing SDL2 and its extension libraries along with the RmlUi submodule; a larger map size and fullscreen mode are available as command-line flags, and connected game controllers are supported, including hot-joining to take over from a CPU-controlled player.

History

The original code was written by a single developer as a university project and posted to a forum; the current maintainer contacted that author for permission and licensing (resulting in an Apache license) before continuing development and porting it first to SDL, then to SDL2.
