About

C-Dogs is a freeware DOS overhead run-and-gun game made between 1997 and 2001 by Ronny Wester, who also created the similar earlier game Cyberdogs in 1994. C-Dogs SDL is an actively maintained SDL port and continuation of the original C-Dogs, adding up to 4-player co-op and deathmatch multiplayer, player customization, more weapons, and support for over 100 user-created campaigns. It runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS.

How it differs from the original

Compared to the original DOS release, C-Dogs SDL adds 4-player multiplayer, moddability, and a large library of new community-made campaigns and maps while aiming to preserve the original's gameplay.

Getting started

It's available as a free download from itch.io, which can auto-update through the itch.io app, or it can be compiled from source using the SDL2 development libraries following the project's getting-started guide.

History

The original C-Dogs was released as freeware by Ronny Wester between 1997 and 2001; after he released its source code in 2002, Jeremy Chin and Lucas Martin-King ported it to SDL, and the project is now maintained by Cong Xu and other contributors.
