About
Cart Life is a 2011 simulation game by Richard Hofmeier in which the player runs one of three struggling street-vendor shops while managing their health, relationships, and family life. This repository contains Richard Hofmeier's original Cart Life source code, released for free after the game was pulled from Steam. It's written for Adventure Game Studio, originally targeting AGS 3.2.1 and now building under AGS 3.4.0; Hofmeier himself describes the code as messy and in need of refactoring.
Getting started
To build and run it you need Adventure Game Studio (3.4.0 or compatible); the sprite data ships as a multi-part RAR archive that must be decompressed first. Pre-built binaries are also available via the project's SourceForge page.
History
Cart Life was added to Steam in March 2013 but later removed after Hofmeier released its full source code for free; it had won the Independent Games Festival's Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Nuovo Award, and Excellence in Narrative award in 2013.

- License
- The permissive free license Hofmeier granted for the code and art does not cover the game's music, which is owned by several separate composers, or its "HOOGE" font, which isn't cleared for redistribution.
