About
[CELL]IVIZATION is a turn-based 4X strategy game built entirely in Microsoft Excel, created by s0lly in about a week for the 2019 OLC CODEJAM (theme: destruction). Version 1.0 is deliberately light on features, offering two-player hot-seat play (Blue vs. Green) with unit movement, city founding, and multiple unit types with special abilities; the author states more features are planned as free "DLC" updates.
Getting started
To play, open the "Main Menu" sheet and press "Start Deathmatch" or "Start Large World". Once running, WASD moves the selected unit, the arrow keys pan the camera, number keys 0-6 build units in a city, "b" has a Settler found a new city, and Esc ends the session (required to restore Excel's normal key behavior afterward).
Known limitations
- gameplay: The game will break if no units exist; all settlers have been used up to build cities and all other units are dead.
- gameplay: The game cannot proceed if a unit gets stuck with no available moves.
Additional notes
- Known issue
- The game breaks if a player runs out of all units, and can get stuck if a unit has no available moves — it must be moved manually or have its movement points set to 0 to continue.
