About

Circus Linux! (and this web port) is based on Circus Atari, an Atari 2600 game released by Atari in 1980; gameplay involves sliding a device left and right to bounce objects into the air and destroy a wall, similar to Breakout. circuslinux is a browser-playable Emscripten port of Circus Linux!, an open-source clone of Circus Atari. The porter states they are not the original author of the game, only of this port, and notes that part of the porting code was written by an LLM; it's described as possibly buggy but playable.

Getting started

The game runs in the browser via the project's GitHub Pages site. Following the original Circus Linux! controls, a clown is launched from a bouncer with a mouse click or the Return/Alt/Shift keys, then the player moves a teeter-totter (mouse or arrow keys) to catch him and bounce him up into rows of balloons for points.

History

The underlying game being ported, Circus Linux!, was originally written by Bill Kendrick and released as version 1.0.3 in April 2001.

Additional notes

Gameplay
The original game supports three optional difficulty modifiers — Barriers, Bouncy Balloons, and Clear All — each tracked with its own separate high score.
