Command Series Engine
About
The Command Series is a trio of wargames — Crusade in Europe, Decision in the Desert, and Conflict in Vietnam — developed by Sid Meier in the mid-1980s and published by MicroProse. Command Series Engine is a from-scratch engine that plays the original Atari 8-bit disk images of MicroProse's three Command Series games, run by pointing the program at an ATR disk image of the original.
How it differs from the original
Several original features are still missing: general bug fixes, music and sound, the intro and ending sequences, and color cycling of the cursor and icons. Save/load support has already been added since the project's early missing-features list was written.
Getting started
Players need their own Atari disk image (ATR file) of one of the three original games; running `command_series <diskimage.atr>` loads it into the recreated engine.
Known limitations
- feature: Missing music and sound support.
- feature: Intro and ending sequences not implemented.
