About
Theme Hospital is a 1997 business simulation game by Bullfrog Productions. CorsixTH is a reimplementation of Theme Hospital that runs on modern Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD systems, adding high-resolution and 4K support, UI scaling, a built-in map/level editor, unlimited save files, custom music, and translations into more than 20 languages. It requires the original game's data files rather than shipping its own, and its codebase is written in Lua (for most game logic) and C++. The full single-player campaign can currently be completed.
How it differs from the original
CorsixTH is still missing multiplayer/LAN play, AI-controlled rival hospitals, the bonus rat level (though rat holes are present), vomit effects, and the win-level video/letter; some original graphics for certain patient types (Pregnancy, Alien DNA, and female Fractured Bones patients) are incomplete and can cause visual anomalies if those patients are allowed to spawn. It also adds features not in the original, such as custom level/campaign creation, full hotkey remapping, and an option to build rooms while the game is paused.
Getting started
Players need an installer for their platform (available from GitHub releases, Flatpak, Snap, or an AppImage) plus the original Theme Hospital's game data, obtainable from an original CD copy or a GOG.com or EA digital purchase.
Known limitations
- multiplayer: Multiplayer/LAN is not yet implemented.
- gameplay: AI Hospitals are not yet implemented.
- graphics: The original graphics do not have a complete set for Pregnancy, Alien DNA, and female Fractured Bones patients.
