About
Daikatana Restoration Project aims to produce a clean, compilable 1.2 source release of Daikatana that works on modern systems. Development has been sporadic — the maintainer notes a four-year gap between commits — with current focus on getting the original OpenGL renderer working and making the code 64-bit clean on Linux; Windows support is a lower priority for the maintainer, who primarily works on Linux. Fixes from other Quake-engine-era source ports, such as Yamagi Quake II, are being used as a reference for similar issues.
History
The project was restarted because the maintainer felt an existing effort to restore Daikatana's source (the "Daikatana 1.3 Project") was unwilling to release its changes publicly, and wanted an open, transparent alternative for the community.
Additional notes
- Provenance
- The maintainer notes that Daikatana's source code has circulated among the community for years without legal action from original publisher Eidos, citing this as part of the justification for continuing the restoration project.
