About
Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel is a 2001 game created by the Australian studio Micro Forte. FreeFT is an open-source, real-time isometric action game engine strongly inspired by Fallout Tactics, built on the libfwk framework; it requires the original game's resources (converted with a bundled conversion tool) to run and provides old prebuilt Windows binaries via SourceForge. Development has stalled and the project is described as far from finished.
How it differs from the original
Compared to the original Fallout Tactics, FreeFT is currently missing a lighting system, RPG elements, dialogue, and a scripting system.
Getting started
Running it requires owning Fallout Tactics (available on GOG, Steam, or Epic); after installing the original game, its resources must be converted with the bundled converter, a process that takes only a few minutes. Basic controls: left-click a tile to move, left-click an entity to interact, right-click to attack, and the T key to teleport to the cursor.
Known limitations
- development: Project is far from finished and not actively developed; many features missing including lighting, RPG elements, dialogue, and scripting systems.
