About

The project describes itself as a clone of "the 1998 game known as 'HL1'" — i.e. the original Half-Life. Rad-Therapy (FreeHL) reimplements Half-Life on top of the Quake(World)-derived FTE Engine via the Nuclide SDK, written entirely in QuakeC with no native code needed by players. It aims to let players complete HL1's singleplayer campaign while staying aware of custom maps and mods, and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Status is semi-playable.

How it differs from the original

The project is explicitly not a port of HL1's original source code and isn't meant to replace it; existing HL1 mods are not compatible unless they are rebuilt against Rad-Therapy specifically.

Getting started

Install the FTE engine, then save the latest release's package_valve.pk3 file into HL1/valve/ — no compiling is required unless you plan to make changes. Updates can be installed later through the in-game Configuration > Updates menu.
