About
This repository is Kevin Edwards' own release of the complete buildable 6502 assembly source code for Galaforce 2 (Aliens' Revenge), the 1988 BBC Micro sequel to his earlier Galaforce, published by Superior Software as part of a four-game compilation. The source was reworked from its original BBC BASIC inline-assembler format to build with the modern BeebAsm toolchain; only the title screen has been changed, to mark the BBC Micro's 40th anniversary, with the rest left as originally released.
Getting started
Build using the included make.bat (requiring the BeebAsm assembler), or via Visual Studio Code with the Beeb VSC extension, to produce a .ssd disk image playable in BBC Micro emulators such as B-em or BeebEm.
History
The author wrote Galaforce 2 in 1987 to overcome memory limits in the original BBC Micro Galaforce, switching from screen MODE 2 to MODE 5 to free up RAM for pick-up capsules, a two-player mode, boss battles, more sprites and levels, a level-select/continue mode, and a new soundtrack by Martin Galway; despite the improvements, it sold poorly because the BBC Micro was already in decline and the game lacked its predecessor's publicity.
