About
Homeworld is a 1999 real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Studios for Windows, following the Kushan exiles' journey through fully three-dimensional space to reclaim their ancestral homeworld after it is destroyed by the Taiidan Empire. Gardens of Kadesh is a fan-maintained continuation of 'Homeworld SDL,' an earlier community port of Homeworld's officially released 1999 source code to SDL for Linux, macOS, and, more recently, web browsers; a group of volunteers picked the project back up in 2019 from its last public 2012 GitHub export and renamed it after Mission 07 of the original campaign.
Getting started
A community-written players' manual is included in the project's documentation.
History
Homeworld's source code was made public in 2003 alongside the release of Homeworld 2, after which fans began the 'Homeworld SDL' porting effort; that project's site went dark around 2016 before a small group of volunteers revived it from a 2012 GitHub backup in 2019 and renamed it Gardens of Kadesh.
