About
Thrust is a 1986 game programmed by Jeremy C. Smith for the BBC Micro and published by Superior Software, in which the player manoeuvres a ship using rotation and thrust across a two-dimensional landscape and through caverns; its gameplay was heavily inspired by Atari's Gravitar. Inertia Blast is an SDL-based clone of Thrust, originally created for MS-DOS by Peter Ekberg (who later ported it to other systems) and now maintained by Dennis Payne. It runs on Windows and Linux, builds with CMake, and is released under the GPL2+ license.
How it differs from the original
The game's graphics were redrawn taking inspiration from the fan remake Thrust 30 rather than any original assets, and support for the other, non-DOS platforms the original was later ported to has been dropped from this version in favor of SDL.
Getting started
It builds from source with a standard CMake-based build and can then be installed on the system directly from the build directory.
