Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate are science-fiction visual novels in 5pb. and Nitroplus's Science Adventure series, released in 2008 and 2009 respectively, originally built on Nitroplus's own visual novel engine. libnpengine is a free reimplementation of the Nitroplus visual novel engine for Linux, currently able to run Steins;Gate and a small number of other Nitroplus titles via companion projects such as chaos-head and steins-gate-new.
