About

Freelancer is a 2003 space trading and combat simulation game developed by Digital Anvil and published by Microsoft Game Studios, a chronological sequel to Digital Anvil's 2000 title Starlancer; it was announced by Chris Roberts in 1999 and released after a long, troubled development following Microsoft's acquisition of Digital Anvil. Librelancer is a re-implementation of Freelancer in C# and OpenGL, currently running on Windows and Linux (macOS support is pending a maintainer). It requires an existing Freelancer installation (vanilla is recommended, though some mods may work) and a GPU supporting OpenGL 3.1 or higher.

Getting started

Clone the repository with all submodules and run the provided build script (build.ps1 on Windows or build.sh on Linux); compiled binaries are also available for download from the project's website. An existing Freelancer installation and an OpenGL 3.1+ capable GPU are required to play.

Requires original assets. A Freelancer installation (Vanilla recommended) is required to run the game.
