About
Kaboom! is a 1981 Atari 2600 game by Activision in which a "Mad Bomber" drops bombs at increasing speed while the player controls water buckets to catch them; it was designed by Larry Kaplan and based on the 1978 arcade game Avalanche. Mad Bomber is a clone of Activision's Kaboom! with upgraded graphics, sound effects, and music, built by Bill Kendrick of New Breed Software. Version 0.2.5 (2003) runs on Linux, Windows, and Zaurus handhelds among other platforms, and offers one-player, two-player, and "two player vs." (one player controls the bomber) modes.
How it differs from the original
Beyond the visual and audio upgrade, it adds a "ZEN" display option that swaps the photo-realistic background for a plain one closer to the original Kaboom! look, and a difficulty setting that widens or narrows the catching bucket.
Getting started
Launch the Linux binary or Windows executable directly; command-line options allow disabling sound or forcing fullscreen. Move the buckets with the arrow keys or mouse, and press Space/Enter/click to make the Mad Bomber start dropping bombs (or to fire, in "two player vs." mode).
