About
This repository preserves a scanned printout of the original 1983 Gottlieb arcade game Mad Planets, released for archival and educational purposes. Mad Planets is a multidirectional shooter in which the player pilots a ship that can move and rotate independently to destroy growing planets and their moons before they turn hostile, collecting bonus astronauts in mini rounds and shooting orbiting comets that increase in value the longer they survive.
History
The printout was scanned by Tony Swann - whose son Austin Swann set the world record for Mad Planets in 2016 - with acquisition, storage, and release handled by Joe Magiera. Kan Yabumoto, the game's original designer and programmer, died in 2017.
Additional notes
- Trivia
- Artist Jeff Lee and sound designer David D. Thiel previously worked together on Gottlieb's Q*bert, a game inspired by a hexagon pattern Yabumoto had implemented.
