About
MicropolisJ descends from Micropolis, the open-source release of SimCity; the original game was designed and implemented by Will Wright. MicropolisJ is a Java version of Micropolis by Jason Long, based on the Unix Micropolis that Don Hopkins developed under license from Maxis. It is released under the GPL version 3.
Getting started
Install Java 7 or newer and double-click the included jar file to run it. Instructions for building from source are included in the repository.
History
The Unix Micropolis it is based on was developed around 1990, later modified for the One Laptop Per Child program, and released as free software under the GPL in 2008.
