About
Larn is a roguelike written by Noah Morgan in 1986 for UNIX; Morgan's original version remains part of the NetBSD games collection. NLarn is a roguelike modeled on Larn that aims to keep the atmosphere and story of Larn's last version (12.3) while improving gameplay and user experience. The player must find a potion in a volcano to cure their daughter of the illness "dianthroritis", working through the caverns of Larn to gain experience and wealth first. It runs on Windows and Linux, with build instructions also covering FreeBSD and macOS, and is actively developed.
How it differs from the original
NLarn keeps Larn 12.3's story but reworks gameplay and user experience, and includes only a few of the additions from ULarn, Phil Cordier's extended late-1980s version of Larn. It adds an in-game configuration menu whose settings persist to a config file.
Getting started
Build instructions for Linux, FreeBSD, macOS and Windows are kept on the project's wiki. In-game help is available by pressing ? or F1, and settings can be changed from the main menu.

- Gameplay
- Time is finite and measured in mobuls (100 turns each); the doctor in town tells you how much time is left when you return home.
