About

Escape Velocity is a space trading and combat role-playing series introduced by Ambrosia Software for the Macintosh in 1996. Nox Imperii is a space trading and combat game forked from Naev, from which most of its code and technical setup come. The player starts with a derelict shuttle in a declining Terran Empire and can trade, fight, take missions, explore or turn to piracy in a large, mostly random galaxy. It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS.

How it differs from the original

It has its own setting and story, a declining Empire of Terra facing barbarian forces and a rival power near Betelgeuse, and uses a mostly randomly generated galaxy.

Getting started

On Linux, build it with the standard autogen/configure/make steps after installing Naev's dependencies (SDL, libxml2, freetype2, libpng, OpenAL, libvorbis, binutils, libzip); macOS builds use Xcode. Keybindings can be set in-game.
