About
Cannon Fodder is a 1993 military-themed shoot 'em up with squad-based tactics, developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive, first on the Amiga. Open Fodder is an open-source version of the Cannon Fodder engine for modern operating systems. It supports Cannon Fodder (Amiga, Amiga CD32, DOS CD), Cannon Fodder 2 (Amiga, DOS CD), and a data pack of six Amiga magazine cover-disk demos and one PC demo, which can also be played in a browser.
How it differs from the original
It adds a JavaScript interpreter for generating random maps with hostages, rescue tents, and helicopters, single-map and random-map modes, a separate campaign and map editor, and hotkeys to switch between the Amiga and PC versions of the data.
Getting started
Try the included demos in a browser, or use data from a retail copy such as the GOG releases of Cannon Fodder and Cannon Fodder 2. Command-line options cover window mode, choosing a campaign, mission and phase, random maps, and a cheats mode.
