About
Imperium Galactica is a 1997 4X space strategy game developed by Hungarian studio Digital Reality and published by GT Interactive. Open Imperium Galactica (Open-IG) is an open-source Java reimplementation of Imperium Galactica, currently in beta. With permission from copyright owner Digital Reality it ships all the files needed to run standalone, so the original game is not required, and it supports English, Hungarian, German, Russian, French, and Spanish (graphics and text only).
How it differs from the original
It adds a resizable window beyond 640x480, a scalable interface, higher-resolution in-game videos, achievements and statistics screens, a Black Market, a non-cheating AI, AI-managed planets, moddable campaigns, customizable skirmish games, and auto- and quicksaves.
Getting started
Download the roughly 1.2 GB 0.95.X package via the Archive.org torrent or zip, or as a last resort use the launcher, which fetches the files itself. It needs Java 11 or newer and a mouse with a scroll wheel; a troubleshooting guide is on the project wiki.
