About
BVE Trainsim is a Japanese 3D train simulator created by Takashi "Mackoy" Kojima starting in 1996, focused on an accurate driving experience from inside the cab. OpenBVE is a 3D cab-based train simulator built on OpenGL and OpenTK. It loads routes in native CSV/RW, BVE5 and Mechanik formats and trains in BVE2/BVE4 formats, with partial support for Microsoft Train Simulator trains still in progress.
How it differs from the original
Beyond BVE's own formats, it also supports Mechanik routes and, partially, MSTS trains. Content can be installed through package files, which replace the now-defunct managed content system.
Getting started
Nightly builds are published daily, and add-on development documentation is on the project website. Routes and trains can be installed as package files.
