Crystal Caves is a 1991 DOS side-scrolling platformer trilogy from the shareware era. OpenCrystalCaves is an unofficial, open-source engine reimplementation of the Crystal Caves trilogy, still in active development per the project's own page. It's a side-scrolling platformer with jump/shoot controls and 2D pixel-art visuals faithful to the DOS original.
Getting started
Controls: arrow keys to move, Z to jump, X to shoot, Enter for menu, Escape to back out. Available for Windows and Linux from the project's itch.io page; progress updates are also posted on the project's Mastodon tag.
Known limitations
- feature: Loading and saving games is not implemented.
- feature: Episodes 2 and 3 are not playable; only episode 1 is available.
- feature: High scores, key remapping, joystick/gamepad/mouse input are not implemented.
