About

Drakan: Order of the Flame is a 1999 action-adventure game developed by Surreal Software and published by Psygnosis, following Rynn and the dragon Arokh. OpenDrakan is a GPL 3.0 project to reverse-engineer and recreate Surreal Software's Riot Engine, with the goal of running Drakan: Order of the Flame on modern GNU/Linux. It is at an early stage and cannot yet be used to play the game.

Getting started

Currently only useful for developers: run the odOsg executable in the game directory (next to Drakan.exe) to load the intro level, or pass a level file path. Until it is playable, the author recommends the AiO or Community patches for the original game.

History

In a 2022 update the author said the project was not dead despite a long pause, and that a full rewrite in Rust had begun.

Known limitations

  • feature: The engine is still in an early stage; you cannot use this replacement to play the game yet.
Requires original assets. Requires a legal copy of Drakan: Order of the Flame to run; does not distribute copyrighted material.

Additional notes

Tools
Includes the srsced tool for extracting raw data from Drakan's SRSC files to help reverse-engineering.
