About

Hogs of War is a 2000 turn-based tactics game developed by Infogrames Sheffield House and published by Infogrames for the PlayStation and Windows, featuring anthropomorphic pigs in a World War I-era setting. OpenHoW was an open-source reimplementation of Hogs of War for Windows and Linux, built from the ground up and supporting content from the PC release. It never reached a playable state, and the repository is archived.

How it differs from the original

The long-term goal was a completely free version with new assets replacing the original ones, in the style of FreeDOOM, plus an editor and enhanced graphics, but these remained a wish list.

Getting started

After compiling (CMake, SDL2 and OpenAL Soft are required), run the included extractor tool on your Hogs of War installation to copy the original assets into the project's bin directory.

History

The author archived the project after an official Hogs of War remaster was announced, choosing not to compete with it; as of October 2019 it was still in an early phase of development.

Known limitations

  • development: Project has been archived; an official Hogs of War remaster is in development instead.
Requires original assets. Requires Hogs of War game files extracted via the included extractor tool.
