About
Theme Park World (Sim Theme Park in North America) is a 1999 amusement-park management game by Bullfrog Productions and Electronic Arts, the direct sequel to Theme Park. OpenTPW is an MIT-licensed open-source re-implementation of Theme Park World that runs on top of an installed copy of the original game and its assets. It is at a very early stage and not yet playable: textures, settings, sounds and strings load, while models, maps, ride scripts and saves are only partly implemented and fonts, lip sync, materials and video are not yet supported.
How it differs from the original
Beyond running on modern hardware and operating systems, the project aims to partly bring back the original game's online features, whose servers have been shut down.
Getting started
It requires a full legal copy of any version of the original game. There are no playable builds yet.
History
It was started because Sim Theme Park is difficult to get running on modern hardware and operating systems.
Known limitations
- gameplay: Currently in very early stage of development and not yet playable.
Additional notes
- Documentation
- The project documents the original game's file formats on a separate formats website, described as a work in progress.
