About

Transport Tycoon is Chris Sawyer's 1994 business simulation game, published by MicroProse, in which the player runs a transport company; OpenTTD is based on its 1995 follow-up, Transport Tycoon Deluxe. OpenTTD is a GPL-2.0 open-source transport simulation game based on Transport Tycoon Deluxe that tries to stay close to the original while adding new features. Players move passengers and cargo by road, rail, water and air on procedurally generated maps up to 4096 x 4096 tiles, in single-player or online and LAN multiplayer. It is actively developed and supported on Windows, macOS and Linux.

How it differs from the original

It does not require the original game: free replacement graphics, sounds and music (OpenGFX, OpenSFX and OpenMSX) are available, though original Transport Tycoon Deluxe data can still be used. It adds cooperative and competitive multiplayer, much larger maps, optional cargo destinations and an in-game content service for community mods.

Getting started

Download a stable or nightly build from the official website, or get it free on Steam, GOG or the Microsoft Store. The Windows installer can download the free graphics and sound sets or copy data files from an original Transport Tycoon Deluxe CD.
