About
Pooyan is a 1982 Konami arcade fixed-shooter in which the player controls a mother pig, Mama, rescuing her piglets from a group of wolves; it was later ported to home consoles and computers. Pooyan is a reverse-engineered Amiga port of Konami's arcade game, running at 60Hz/50 FPS on OCS, ECS, and AGA PAL Amigas. It was built via 68000 transcoding and graphics/sound conversion, with an actively maintained version history including a 1.01 update that improved music playback and redraw performance.
How it differs from the original
Runs slower on a base A500 but performs well on an Amiga 1200 or any 020-class machine, and includes an alternate 25 FPS mode to compensate; the author also notes some minor remaining bugs.
Getting started
Play with a joystick or the keyboard: 5 or fire inserts a coin, 1/2/up/down starts the game, the arrows or joystick move the character, Ctrl or joystick-fire attacks, and P pauses.
Known limitations
- platform: Slow on A500, runs well on A1200 or 020 machines; includes 25FPS mode.
- gameplay: Minor bugs present.
