About
Powerslide is a 1998 post-apocalyptic racing game by Australian studio Ratbag Games for Windows, praised for its graphics and AI, and later re-released on GOG in 2012. Powerslide remake reimplements Powerslide's arcade racing in an open 3D environment using a programmable rendering pipeline, with AI opponents based on a neural network and online multiplayer via a dedicated web server. It's cross-platform, running on Windows, Linux, and Android.
How it differs from the original
Unlike the original, it requires you to supply the original game's packed asset files from the CD or GOG release rather than including any original content, and it adds a from-scratch neural-network AI and online multiplayer through a custom web server. Integrated graphics chips aren't supported — a discrete GPU is required.
Getting started
You'll need to supply the original game's packed asset files (from the CD or GOG release) placed alongside the built application, plus the original CD's music tracks converted to .ogg for sound; for multiplayer, a web server needs to be running and reachable, using several TCP/UDP ports.
Known limitations
- compatibility: Integrated graphics not supported; discrete video card required.
