About

Progress Quest is a zero-player game created by Eric Fredricksen as a parody of EverQuest and other MMORPGs — once a character is set up there's no further interaction, and the game plays and displays itself. Its source code was released in 2011. This is a C++/Qt port (version 7) of Progress Quest, continuing from Eric Fredricksen's original Delphi Pascal version and a later JavaScript port. It was written by Martin Horner starting around 2012.

History

The author describes the original Progress Quest as a joke that spiraled into an internet meme, poking fun at how much of typical MMORPG play is just idle time-consumption; after finishing this C++/Qt version (pq7), the author planned to move on to a more ambitious pq8 rather than continue refining pq7.

Additional notes

Trivia
The author jokes that bug reports and improvement suggestions will initially be mocked before any action is taken on them.
