About
Dwarf Fortress and RimWorld are construction-and-management simulation games — Dwarf Fortress a freeware title in development since 2002, and RimWorld a 2013 Kickstarter-funded 'story generator' game by Tynan Sylvester that reached version 1.0 in 2018. Project Porcupine is a base-building game and Unity tutorial project created by Martin 'quill18' Glaude to teach a full, multi-featured game rather than a typical single-feature demo. It provides a tile-based map with self-governing agent characters and XML/Lua-defined furniture, intended as a skeleton for a Dwarf Fortress- or RimWorld-style community-developed game.
Getting started
Pre-built 'weekly' snapshot builds for Windows, Mac, and Linux are available for download, though these are in-progress development builds rather than a finished release and may contain bugs or incomplete features.
History
The project grew out of a YouTube tutorial series by Martin 'quill18' Glaude, supported via Patreon, with the stated long-term goal of becoming a community-developed base-building game in the style of Dwarf Fortress or RimWorld.
