About
Quake 4 is a 2005 first-person shooter developed by Raven Software with id Software, a direct sequel to Quake II built on the id Tech 4 engine, with an increased focus on single-player over the earlier, multiplayer-centric Quake III Arena. Quake4Doom integrates id Software's Quake 4 SDK into the open-sourced Doom 3 GPL codebase, aiming for visual parity with the original Quake 4 and described by its author as almost entirely playable, with the exception of the particle effects system, which was never released as open source.
How it differs from the original
The particle effects from the original Quake 4 are missing since that system was never open-sourced, and the project has a known bug where some doors fail to open, requiring the player to noclip past them.
Getting started
The main menu is currently broken — selecting any button turns the screen black — so to actually start a game you need to open the in-game console and enter a specific level-load command instead of using the menu.
Known limitations
- compatibility: Some doors do not open and require noclip to progress.
- ui: Main menu goes black when buttons are selected; use console command 'devmap game/airdefense1' to start a game.
- graphics: Particle system was never open sourced, affecting visual effects.
