About
Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworlds is a 1995 game developed by Bullfrog and published by Electronic Arts, the sequel to Magic Carpet, later re-released on GOG.com in 2013 with Windows and macOS support. remc2 (Magic Carpet 2 HD) is a reverse-engineered reimplementation of Magic Carpet 2, translated from assembler to C/C++, that adds HD/2K/4K resolution support and a configurator for modern controls. It runs on Windows and Linux, and the project states the game is now fully playable using assets extracted from a legally-owned GOG copy.
How it differs from the original
Adds resolution scaling up to 4K, modern remappable controls, and basic LAN/IPv4 multiplayer that the original release lacked; a related sibling project, Magic Balls, renders the same reverse-engineered engine's output through Godot instead.
Getting started
Purchase Magic Carpet 2 from GOG, build the project with Visual Studio 2022 (Windows) or CMake (Linux), then run the included check_install.sh script to extract and verify the required game assets from your GOG installation before running remc2.
