About

Q*bert is a 1982 action video game developed and published by Gottlieb for arcades, using isometric graphics to create a pseudo-3D pyramid of cubes that the player must recolor while avoiding enemies. ReQbert is a browser-based remake of the MSX version of Q*bert, built in HTML5 and JavaScript with 2D canvas rendering (using Webpack and Babel), created by Leonardo Nicolas in memory of co-creator Luciano Sother. It's a non-profit, still-evolving project with its own hand-drawn PNG sprites and JSON-defined levels, and does not require the original game's assets.

Getting started

Play the latest build directly in a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Safari) via the project's GitHub Pages link. Rotate cubes to match the reference cube shown in the top-left corner, using the arrow keys in diagonal combinations to move, and clear 5 cubes in a line to complete a level.

History

The project was started by Leonardo Nicolas and Luciano Sother, two Brazilian developers and childhood fans of Konami's MSX games, as a way to practice HTML5 and JavaScript in their spare time; it's now maintained by Nicolas in memory of Sother.
