About

Super Mario Bros. 3 is a 1988 platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the NES, directed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. This is a disassembly of Super Mario Bros. 3 that reassembles, byte-for-byte, into the original US (PRG1) ROM using the NESASM assembler. It's aimed at research into the game's internals and technical ROM hacks such as Super Mario Bros. 3Mix, and also bundles support files for the author's separate level-editor and music-conversion tools.

Getting started

Running NESASM on the provided source reassembles it into a ROM identical to the original cartridge release, which can then be played like any other NES ROM.

Additional notes

Tooling
The repo also bundles support files for the author's own level editor and a music-conversion utility, though these aren't required just to build the ROM.
