Space Nerds In Space

About
Artemis: Spaceship Bridge Simulator is a cooperative multiplayer spaceship-simulation game by Thomas Robertson, designed for three to eight players on a local network, each running a separate bridge station such as helm or engineering on their own computer. Space Nerds In Space is an open-source, LAN-based multiplayer spaceship bridge simulator inspired by Artemis, with separate terminals for Navigation, Weapons, Engineering, Damage Control, Comms, Science, and a Game Master role. It's still a work in progress but described by its author as substantially complete and largely bug-free, and runs on Linux, with limited or unsupported Raspberry Pi and old Mac compatibility.
How it differs from the original
It adds features beyond Artemis's original scope, including asteroid mining, bounty hunting, warp-gate travel between an arbitrarily large universe of solar systems, starbases where players can repair and trade, and a Lua scripting API for building custom mission scenarios.
Getting started
The game is meant to be played on a local network with everyone in the same room, ideally six Linux computers, a network switch, a shared display, and a sound system, though it can also run on a single machine. After building from source, extra art assets need to be downloaded separately through the client's built-in updater before the game is fully playable, and the client also has buttons to start the game's server processes and connect to a local game lobby.
