About

Spacewar! is a 1962 space combat game created by Steve Russell and collaborators for MIT's DEC PDP-1, widely considered one of the first video games ever made and the first to be played across multiple computer installations. This is a browser-playable, multiplayer Spacewar! clone, originally written in Python in 2004 as a learning project and ported to the web with the Phaser framework in 2016. Up to four players control ships with independent thrust, rotation, and a blaster weapon on a toroidal (wrap-around) plane, with a central sun exerting gravity on every object.

Getting started

Playable online directly in the browser, supporting up to four simultaneous players via preset keyboard control schemes for each player slot.

History

Originally written in Python at the end of 2004 as a project to learn the language, then ported to the web using the Phaser framework in 2016.
