About

Company of Heroes is a World War II real-time strategy series by Relic Entertainment; its sequel, Company of Heroes 2, shifts the setting to the Eastern Front and has players primarily command the Soviet Red Army from Operation Barbarossa to the Battle of Berlin. Spring: 1944 is a free, open-source WWII-themed 3D multiplayer real-time strategy game built on the open-source Spring RTS Engine, aiming to be realistic while staying fun and accessible. Matches average around 40 minutes and can involve up to six factions -- the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary), the Allies (Great Britain, Soviet Union, United States), or the neutral Sweden faction -- each fielding infantry, artillery, tanks, aircraft, and naval assets, with support for large battles featuring thousands of units.

How it differs from the original

The game is a complete standalone title with all art and assets created from scratch, rather than reusing any from the games that inspired it.

Getting started

The game is played online in multiplayer battles with up to six playable factions plus a neutral Sweden option, all of which can be allied together freely.
