About
This repository preserves the original source code and assets for the 1995 3DO port of Star Fighter, developed by Tim Parry and Andrew Hutchings for 3DO following the game's original 1994 release by Fednet Software on the Acorn Archimedes. The code was released by Nathan Atkinson with Andrew Hutchings' permission in April 2024, and the archive appears complete with most or all of the game's processed media assets (CEL images, AIFC audio, Cinepak video).
How it differs from the original
The 3DO version differs from the original Acorn RISC OS release: its map screen is rendered in 3D rather than 2D, ship upgrades are obtained by collecting 3D shapes from destroyed objects instead of being bought with money, and the player can blast pathways through mountain ranges with the laser.
History
The source was located and released in April 2024 after 3DO community member shaun_3dohd asked Nathan Atkinson about its existence, and Atkinson obtained Andrew Hutchings' permission to share it.

- Level-design and media-creation tools used for the original Acorn RISC OS version are not included and their whereabouts are unknown; source text files remain in the classic Mac OS format used by the original 3DO SDK.
