About

Super Bagman is a 1984 arcade game by Valadon Automation, credited in this project's own readme to programmer Jacques Brisse. SuperBagman500 is a 2023 remake of Super Bagman for the Amiga (targeting the A500), built by transcoding 99% of the original Z80 arcade code to 68000 assembly for close accuracy to the source; it uses sample-based sound, and some original memory-read bugs and text typos have been fixed, though others remain intentionally. A Neo Geo build is also supported by the source, though it isn't currently planned for release.

How it differs from the original

Compared to the arcade original, this remake fixes some memory-read bugs and text typos, extends the high-score entry to allow longer names, adds a "very easy" difficulty mode, and includes a "hard bags" layout that starts with the arcade's Act 2 bag pattern before continuing into a previously-unseen layout exposed by an original game bug, while intentionally leaving some of the arcade's other bugs intact.

Getting started

The Amiga version is fully playable with sound. Movement uses the joystick's directions, with fire/ctrl to pick up, release, or jump on objects, and a second button to shoot; building it from source requires Bebbo's Amiga GCC compiler, Python, and sox.

History

The author's own changelog traces related Bagman work back to 2010, culminating in this 2023 Amiga release.

Known limitations

  • audio: No music in current beta version.
  • features: Missing trainer feature in beta.
