About

Super Foul Egg is a Puyo Puyo clone released for the Amiga and Acorn Archimedes in 1995, created by a reader after the magazine Amiga Power noted no decent Puyo Puyo clone existed for the machine; it was later ranked the 34th best Amiga game of all time by Amiga Power. This is a macOS port of Super Foul Egg, itself a rewrite of Really Bad Eggs (a Nintendo DS port of Super Foul Egg). It reimplements the falling-egg matching gameplay with practice, versus-CPU, and local two-player modes, built for OS X 10.7 Lion.

How it differs from the original

Compared to the Nintendo DS version it's based on, this OS X port uses an exact replica of the original Amiga scoring system rather than a Tetris-inspired one, shows scores with the original Amiga graphics, drops eggs off the losing player's grid at the end of a game, reveals the grid's bottom row thanks to the larger screen, and has a considerably more advanced AI.

Getting started

Use the cursor keys to move and drop pieces, comma and period to rotate, and Return to pause; in two-player mode each player has a separate set of keys (player 1 uses D/G/F/S/A, player 2 uses the cursor keys), and controls can be remapped via the Preferences menu.

Original Super Foul Egg graphics and sounds were created by David and Michael Hay; this port's coding, reverse engineering, and remixing was done by Antony Dzeryn.
