About

Syndicate Wars is Bullfrog Productions' 1996 isometric real-time tactical and strategic game, published by Electronic Arts for DOS and PlayStation as the sequel to Syndicate, set 95 years further into the future. SyndWarsFX (a continuation of a port originally started by Unavowed and Gynvael Coldwind) is a port of the 1996 DOS release of Syndicate Wars to modern GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems, built by disassembling the original DOS executable and replacing DOS-specific code with SDL, Vorbis, and OpenAL. It ships with an executable and some data files, but requires the original game's CD or a digital-distribution CD image to supply the rest, and supports installing in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish.

Getting started

Installation requires either the original Syndicate Wars CD or a CD image, plus extra graphics, sound, and level data files that the installer downloads separately; a compiled build (or the prebuilt patch release) is then placed alongside that data. The port no longer requires the original's startup parameters to run normally, though they're still supported alongside many new ones.

Known limitations

  • platform: Only playable on x86 architecture; requires 32-bit address space support.
Requires original assets. Original Syndicate Wars CD or CD image from digital distribution is required for installation.
