About
Sid Meier's Civilization V is a 4X turn-based strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K, released for Windows in September 2010 and later for Mac OS X and Linux. Unciv is an open source, moddability-focused remake of Civilization V for Android and desktop, built with the LibGDX framework and distributed via Google Play, F-Droid, itch.io, Flathub, and several package managers. It uses no assets from the original game. Development is active, currently focused on UI/UX polish and in-game AI, with Gods & Kings and Brave New World mechanics from the original Civ V still on the roadmap.
How it differs from the original
Unciv uses none of Civilization V's original assets — all art and audio are original or separately licensed — and the project explicitly limits its scope to Civ V's own features and mechanics rather than adding new content or pursuing a Civilization VI-style sequel.
Getting started
Unciv can be installed from Google Play or F-Droid on Android, or on Linux, Windows, and macOS via itch.io, Flathub, Homebrew, or various OS package managers; a Docker image and prebuilt Windows/Linux/Android release files are also available, and the game can be built from source.
