About
Asteroids is a 1979 multidirectional shooter developed and published by Atari for arcades, where the player shoots and destroys asteroids and flying saucers while avoiding collisions. Vectoroids is an SDL-based vector-graphics rock-shooting game modeled on Asteroids. It supports keyboard or joystick controls and uses public-domain NASA photography of Jupiter, taken by the Voyager 1 probe, as its backdrop.
Getting started
Build with make (use make nosound or make JOY=NO to disable audio or joystick support), then run the installed vectoroids program. Controls are Left/Right to rotate, Up to thrust, Space to fire, and either Shift key to respawn after dying.
History
Vectoroids is adapted from the author's earlier game Agendaroids, written for the Agenda VR3 Linux-based PDA. Version 1.1.0 was built between November 2001 and April 2002 as an entry in the 'SDL Game Under 1 Megabyte' contest held by No Starch Press and Loki Entertainment Software.
