About

Zork is a text-adventure game first released in 1977 by Tim Anderson, Marc Blank, Bruce Daniels, and Dave Lebling, later expanded and split by their company Infocom into three commercial titles: Zork I, II, and III. zorkClone is an early-stage Java reimplementation of Zork I, II, and III — described by its author as not a wrapper around the original but a from-scratch rewrite, adding a modern command window, autocomplete, and a list of commands valid in the current situation. At this stage nothing works yet, no official downloads are offered, and only a buggy snapshot build exists.

How it differs from the original

It adds autocomplete and a list of currently-valid commands, conveniences the original 1980s Zork releases didn't have, though as a very early-stage project most of the actual game content hasn't been rewritten yet.

Known limitations

  • gameplay: Project is still in early development; nothing works yet and the software is very buggy.
